Open Hand Productions exists to provide music and theatre events of the highest quality.
Current musical productions include tributes to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Classic Rock Playlist, and Divas, whilst the Company’s flagship – The Cambridge Shakespeare Festival – annually presents eight, open-air plays during July and August in the college gardens of the University of Cambridge . The Festival was listed fourth in The Independent on Sunday’s ‘Top 50 UK Arts Festivals’ and attracts upwards of 30,000 visitors each year from all over the world.
The company also has a charitable focus and has raised over £100,000 for its designated charities, St John’s Hospice (Wirral) and the Children’s Hospice (Cambridge).

Dr. David Crilly (Artistic Director) established the Festival Company in Oxford in 1988 whilst still a member of Magdalen College, where he undertook doctoral research in musicology. He is a composer and has performed on many occasions as an orchestral conductor in Cambridge. He has published on semiotics, music analysis and aesthetics, and also on the music of Britten, Debussy and Charlie Parker. For eighteen years he was Director-in-Residence for Anglia Opera. He is also an independent researcher in Music and Drama and recently returned from lecture tours of India, Oman, Jordan, China, Egypt, Namibia, South Africa and USA.
